UK Manufacturing Facts

Over the past 12 months, the manufacturing sector has significantly changed with its part of the economy dropping yet again. The sector itself only accounts for 10% of GDP which is 7 times less as the services sector which accounts for 75%.

Only 8% of jobs are in manufacturing – This is compared to 25% of UK jobs being in the sector in 1978. Although manufacturing jobs have been falling, productivity has significantly risen according to the ONS (Office for National Statistics).

The majority of UK manufacturing comes from the north – According to the ONS, overall the north-west of the UK contributes the most to the UK manufacturing turnover.

The US imports the most UK-made goods of any country –  The US imported over £32 billion worth of UK manufactured goods in 2013, compared to Germany who imported over £24 billion  worth of goods.
