Plastic Manufacturing

Manufacturing with plastic is fast developing practice, with new ways of doing things being discovered all of the time. The potential for this is massive, already we’ve seen surprising, sometimes frightening, capabilities of this relatively new technology. There is a great variety of ways to turn plastic into something usable, from differences in scale of production, to the very process it undergoes. Sometimes, using a vacuum to fit plastic to a mould is suitable, but more recent technology is even better. We’ve all seen the news about how a small production model can be used to manufacture guns made almost entirely by plastic.

Plastic is a very interesting material. It is usually derived from petro-chemical products, and refined into the end product. There are an increasing number of types of plastics, all made suitable to a specific task. It can be used for building the body of motor vehicles. In fact, it is almost the ideal product for that, because it is so light. It can be used for packaging, from food packaging, to protecting valuable property. It can be made very tough, so its applications are massive.
